Okewood Hill Fete 2024

By Luke Huckle

After a busy couple of months travelling to various steam rallies with the Burrell, it was time for the annual Okewood Hill Fete based near Ockley, Surrey.

This is a event I’ve been involved in for around 10 years now as both a attendee and now organizing the engine section. As always, we start the preparation on the day before, heading down to the cricket green to put the pins in for the engine enclosure and then to meet my contact from the committee, Jason.

Once the enclosure is done, it’s time to head to the Punchbowl pub for a cold beer or 2 as per our yearly tradition.  Onto show day! I took along my Teles dragsaw along with a couple of rather large chunks of wood! A few issues with the engine but we managed to cut a fair number of wooden rings. These are then offered to the public for a donation to a chosen charity.

A fantastic turn out of visiting engines this year, everything from models to James & Nathans Petter Lighting set! As a thank you to all that attend, Jenny and I fire up the cooking gear and do sausage, bacon, egg rolls! This has become a bit of a stable when we attend Okewood Hill!  All in all a fantastic day and thanks again to all those that attended. Also thank you to Colin and Alan for all their help with the preparation.

Once the date for 2025 is confirmed, I will share the details and anyone that wishes to attend can get in contact.
